Using Wood Chips, Shavings and Sawdust for Compost
Using wood product as a material in composted soil and mulch brings many qualities to your garden.
Wood material sucks up nitrogen as it decomposes which balances out the amount of nitrogen in the soil from other materials such as food scraps. In addition to adding carbon, decomposing wood material absorbs and retains moisture which helps the process of composting.
After the composition period is complete, the compost enriches the soil and is as an organic way to allow air and water to reach the roots of plants.
These materials are all natural Douglas Fir and don’t contain any harmful chemicals that would be worrisome in a garden. Our gardening mix is a byproduct, created in a local lumber mill, and by using it in your garden you’re not only supporting a local business but also recycling and keeping it from going to waste as well.
